Hiking...safety

Recommendations

Suitable equipment is recommended when walking and trekking on the Grand Massif footpaths.

Remember...  Essentials include wearing breathable thermal clothing, hiking shoes/boots and a trekking pole (telescopic is best) for easier progress and downhill comfort.

Your backpack should contain… A detailed IGN map (1/25000), water, energy bars, a headlamp, a survival blanket and a first aid kit.  Protect yourself and your children from the sun (high factor sun cream, baseball caps, sunglasses) not forgetting to drink regularly, before you feel thirsty.

And to avoid nasty surprises, check the weather forecast before setting out and let someone know your itinerary and what time you plan to get back: http://chamonix-meteo.com

Hiking trail maps are on sale in the Grand Massif tourist offices (Flaine, Les Carroz, Morillon, Samoëns and Sixt), campsites and village bookshops.

Respect is to protect !

A wilderness habitat, the Grand Massif covers an area rich in nature, but one which is held in a delicate balance.
To all mountain bike riders, we ask you to show true respect of the basic rules of protecting the natural environment:

• don't frighten animals or herds
• respect hayfields, crops and plantations
• ride only on existing trails
• respect residents and other trail users
• and of course, take all of your rubbish home with you!
